Do ankle weights work?
I want to get faster, so i want to buy ankle weights, to use for the speed ladder and some agility drills for football, but i need to know do they really work or are they just a waste of money, will they injury me in some sort of way, or should i just walk around in them.
P.S. someone told me that they slow down or reduce your fast twitch muscles is this true or false
Juan, save your money. If you want to run faster then speed up the pace that you use in training. Some sprinters use parachutes or elastic bands to help them develop the musculature in the legs and hips. Remember that muscle is made up of fast and slow twitch fibers. Weighted movements are going to slow you down and help to develop more slow twitch fibers. If you are really going to use weights then use very light ones in a weight vest. That will not slow down your rate of speed in the legs. The weighted principle is an old one used by the Russians to increase jumping height.
