Will an autograph be worth anything if it is made out to a particular person? I have one from a NFL retiree?
but it is made out to my dad. I tucked it away with the idea that one day it may be worth something, but am I wasting my time?
I think it depends on the player and the rarity of his autograph. If he signed a lot of autographs, then it's not worth that much. If he did very few signings, then it's worth a lot more.
Since he's still alive, it's probably not worth all that much because he can still sign lots and lots of autographs, flooding the market. If he was dead, then it might be worth something because he obviously can't sign any more autographs.
I think collectors also give more if there's a message along with the autograph. More writings means it rarer. Just about anybody can get an autograph, but it's hard to get a message.
