how can hand wraps in boxing, or martial arts, keep your wrist straight, if they are flexable and just cloth?
Do we have to pull it really tight or what, because it doesnt look like it can keep your wrist straight at all.
Some fighters tape their wrists before wrapping their hands and I would if I was going to work out and if I had a sore one to give it a little more support and that along with hand wraps works really well. If you are wrapping your hands with hand wraps I would ask if you are using a hand wrap that is rolled first. You might think it does not really matter but actually it does. Fighters and basketball players that wrap their hands or ankles start with a rolled wrap which not only makes it easier but also helps control how much tension you are creating at that point when wrapping them. This way you can wrap a little tighter across and around the wrist giving you more and better support there and then lighten up over the hand and through the fingers so that you don't cut off the circulation. Also when you wrap you need to offset each pass over the previous wrapped area by a quarter to a half inch which also along with controlling the tension gives you more support or less depending on how much the offset is. This along with locking your wrists is usually enough but some fighters do prefer to tape their wrists before wrapping them.
