Back Brace Fitting? What to expect?
Hi. Just recently, I took my kids to the doctor for a begining-of-school-year physical. I usually do to make sure my children's asthma meds are updated for school and just to make sure everything else is okay. Anyway...I have an 11 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. Their doctor took x-rays and found that they both have scoliosis. So now they are both set to be fitted for a back brace. I was hoping to get it done before school, and I have it set for next week. How long should it take for two fittings?
What do they do at the fitting? What should we expect?
What should my kids wear?
Should my daughter wear a sports bra or a bathing suit?
Will they have to take their clothes off?
I had to get a back brace, but not that young. But for two kids, you're basically making a day out of being at the hospital. You end up waiting for most of it. But they have to examine the x-rays, then they'll take measurements to get the brace to be the right size, or if they have to do a custom brace they basically make a mold out of your kid's abdomen. They'll go over all the procedures for wearing it (keep it on for 18 hours a day, ect)
I remember when I had to get a custom fitting I had to wear a special shirt they gave me. It was like a super tight dress, but it covered everything. Your kids will get them to wear under the brace. So your daughter should be fine in a sports bra and underwear. But I'm pretty sure most of their clothes will be off for the measurements.
